Adopt Me Beginner's Guide - Everything You Need to Know (2026)

Radek

Adopt Me is one of the biggest games on Roblox and has been for years. It looks simple at first but there is actually a lot going on under the surface. If you just joined and feel lost, this guide covers everything you need to know to get started without wasting your time.

What Is Adopt Me?

Adopt Me is a pet collecting and trading game made by Uplift Games. You hatch eggs to get pets, raise them, trade with other players, and build and decorate your own house. It has been around since 2017 and has over 30 billion visits, making it one of the most played Roblox games of all time.

The core loop is simple. Hatch eggs, raise pets, trade for better pets, repeat. But the trading economy goes really deep and that is where most of the long-term gameplay lives.

Choosing Your Role: Baby or Parent

When you first load in you can choose to play as a Baby or a Parent. For new players focused on earning Bucks fast, always pick Baby. As a Baby you get tasks for yourself AND for your pet at the same time, which means you earn roughly double the Bucks compared to playing as a Parent.

Bucks - How to Earn Them

Bucks are the main in-game currency and you need them to buy eggs. Here are the best ways to earn them:

  • Complete pet tasks — your pet will have needs like hunger, thirst, and sleep. Fulfilling these earns Bucks constantly and is your main income source
  • Daily login bonus — log in every day to keep your streak going. The streak rewards add up fast over time and eventually unlock Golden and Diamond Eggs
  • Jobs around the map — the Pizza Shop, Salon, and other jobs around Adoption Island pay Bucks when pet tasks are on cooldown
  • Passive income — you earn a small amount of Bucks every 10 to 15 minutes just for being in the game

The most important thing is to stay consistent. Logging in daily and keeping your pet tasks active at all times will earn you far more Bucks than playing for hours once a week.

Eggs and Pet Rarities

Eggs are how you get pets. The main permanent eggs you can buy from the Nursery are:

  • Cracked Egg — 350 Bucks, mostly common pets
  • Pet Egg — 600 Bucks, better odds for uncommon and rare pets
  • Royal Egg — 1,450 Bucks, guaranteed uncommon or better, chance at legendary

Pets come in six rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra-Rare, Legendary, and Limited. The higher the rarity the harder it is to get and the more valuable it is for trading.

There are also limited eggs that only stick around for a few months before retiring. These are worth buying before they leave because the pets inside become much more valuable in trades once they are gone.

Growing Your Pets

When you first hatch a pet it starts as a Newborn. You grow it by completing tasks with it active. The growth stages are Newborn, Junior, Pre-teen, Teen, Post-teen, and Full Grown. Rarer pets need more tasks to level up than common ones.

Getting pets to Full Grown matters a lot because you need four Full Grown pets of the same type to make a Neon pet. Neon pets are worth significantly more in trades.

Getting Your Trade License

Before you can trade Ultra-Rare and Legendary pets you need a Trade License. Find the Safety Hub on your map, talk to the NPC there, and pass a short quiz. The questions are straightforward and just test basic trading safety knowledge. It takes about two minutes and you should do it as early as possible.

Your First House

Everyone starts with a free Tiny Home. You can upgrade to bigger houses using Bucks. Honestly for beginners housing is not a priority. Save your Bucks for eggs and focus on building your pet collection first. The one thing worth buying early is a Pet Bed, Food Bowl, and Water Bowl since these help you complete pet tasks faster.

Scams to Watch Out For

This is important. There are a few common scams that catch new players constantly:

  • Trust trading — someone asks you to give them a valuable pet first with a promise to give you something better in return. They never do. Never trust trade, ever.
  • Unrealistic offers — if someone is offering you a legendary pet for your common one for no reason, it is a scam. Walk away.
  • Fake middlemen — scammers pretend to be neutral middlemen to steal items during big trades. Only use trusted community middlemen if you need one.

The general rule is that if a trade seems too good to be true, it always is.

Quick Tips for Your First Week

  • Play as Baby for double Bucks income
  • Focus on pet tasks first, do jobs when tasks are on cooldown
  • Save 1,450 Bucks for a Royal Egg as your first big purchase
  • Get your Trade License before you need it
  • Do not spend Bucks on furniture until you have a solid pet collection
  • Log in every day even if it is just for a few minutes to keep your streak
