Roblox New Publishing Requirements 2026 - Are You Eligible?

Radek

Starting May 19, 2026, Roblox is adding new requirements to publish games that can be played by users under 16. If you make games on Roblox this affects you directly. Here is a clear checklist of exactly what you need and how to check your eligibility right now.

Check Your Eligibility First

Before reading any further, go to create.roblox.com/settings/eligibility/publishing-permissions and log in. This page will tell you exactly where you stand and what actions you still need to take. It is the fastest way to know your situation.

The Three Publishing Tiers

There are now three different levels of publishing with different requirements for each one.

Tier 1: Personal Use Only

Requirements: None, anyone can do this

You can still publish games for personal use with no extra steps at all. Nothing changes here. This is fine if you just want to test something or build for yourself, but your game will not be discoverable or playable by other users on the platform.

Tier 2: Publish to Players Over 16 and Trusted Friends

Requirements:

  • Complete an age check on your Roblox account
  • Account must be in good standing with no major violations
  • Account must be at least 2 days old

This tier is pretty easy for most existing creators to meet. The age check is a quick process on Roblox's website. If your account is already in good standing and more than 2 days old, you essentially just need to complete the age check and you are done.

Tier 3: Publish to All Ages Including Under 16

Requirements:

  • Everything from Tier 2, plus:
  • Full ID verification on your account
  • Two-factor authentication enabled
  • An active Roblox Plus subscription ($4.99 per month)
  • Your game must pass the new evaluation process

This is the one most people are talking about. If you want players under 16 to be able to find and play your game, you need all four of these on top of the Tier 2 requirements.

Step by Step Checklist

Here is a checklist you can go through right now to figure out exactly what you still need to do.

Step 1: Age Check Go to your Roblox account settings and complete the age check if you have not already. This uses Roblox's facial age estimation technology and takes a few minutes.

Step 2: Account Standing Make sure your account has no major Community Standards violations. If you have had warnings or strikes in the past, check whether they are considered major violations on the eligibility page.

Step 3: Account Age Your account needs to be at least 2 days old. This is not an issue for any existing creator.

Step 4: ID Verification For Tier 3 you need to verify your identity with a government issued ID. Go to your Roblox account settings and look for the ID Verification option. You will need a passport, driving licence, or similar document. Note that Roblox has a solution coming for users who are too young to have a state issued ID, where a verified parent can grant eligibility instead.

Step 5: Two-Factor Authentication Go to your account settings and enable 2FA if you have not already. You can use an authenticator app or SMS. This takes about two minutes and is worth doing for account security alone regardless of the publishing requirements.

Step 6: Roblox Plus Subscription This is the controversial one. You need an active Roblox Plus subscription at $4.99 per month to publish to all ages. Plus becomes available on April 30, 2026.

Step 7: Game Evaluation Once you meet all the above requirements, newly published games will go through an evaluation process where they are first shown to age-checked users over 16. Once the game picks up enough genuine engagement and passes Roblox's moderation checks, it will be opened up to players under 16. You can track this progress in Creator Hub.

Do You Qualify for Free Roblox Plus?

Roblox is giving roughly 100,000 existing creators 6 months of free Roblox Plus to help with the transition. You qualify if:

  • At least one game you own had 100 or more hours of total playtime in the 30 days leading up to April 13, 2026
  • You have no major Community Standards violations
  • For group games the free Plus goes to the group owner

Check the eligibility page at create.roblox.com/settings/eligibility/publishing-permissions to see if you qualify. The free period starts on May 19.

What About Group Games?

For games published under a Roblox group, the group owner needs to meet all the requirements. Individual developers working on the game do not need to meet the requirements themselves, only the group owner does.

What Happens to Games Already Published?

Games that are already live do not get immediately taken down on May 19. The new requirements apply when publishing a game for the first time after the change goes live. Roblox has not given full details on what happens to existing games long term so it is worth keeping an eye on further announcements.

Key Dates

  • April 30 — Roblox Plus becomes available to subscribe to
  • May 19 — New publishing requirements go live
  • Early June — Roblox Kids and Select accounts roll out
